The situation cards, Rules, Definitions, Practice and ruling notes are built into the app and work offline. Ask Coach, content updates and links to the official Rules need an internet connection.

No. 9shot Rules is an independent learning app based on the Rules of Golf 2023, not affiliated with The R&A or the USGA. Cards explain the Rules in plain words and link to the official text on The R&A’s website. In a competition, ask a referee or the Committee for a ruling.

Coach uses AI (Claude, by Anthropic) through our server. Answers cite Rule numbers and link to relevant cards in the app. There is a daily question limit. AI answers can be wrong and are not official rulings; please do not type personal information into your questions.

Saved cards, recently viewed cards, settings, Practice progress, ruling notes and your recent Ask Coach messages are kept on your phone, together with a random install ID. When you open Ask Coach, the app sends the random install ID to our server to check your daily question allowance. When you ask Coach a question, the app sends the question, up to six earlier messages of the chat, the card you came from (if any), the app language, version and platform, and the install ID to our server. The question and messages are passed to Anthropic to write the answer; the install ID and your IP address are not. We do not store your questions or Coach’s answers on our server. Anthropic retains questions and messages after processing under the terms applicable to the API service we use. To enforce the daily limit and prevent abuse, the server keeps usage counts and technical information associated with hashes that change every day. These records are deleted after 30 days. Clear the chat in Ask Coach or delete notes or saved cards in the app. To remove the app’s local data, clear its storage or uninstall it on Android; on iPhone, choose Delete App. These actions do not delete server usage records, which are retained for 30 days, the questions and messages retained by Anthropic, or device backups managed by Google or Apple. The iPhone version is in testing and is not yet available on the App Store. No public release date has been announced.

English, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese and Spanish. The app follows your phone's language; you can change it in Settings → Language, or read a single card in another language from the button on the card. More languages are planned.
